FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer therapy or coaching?

Yes. I offer both therapy and relational coaching, depending on your location and needs.

I provide relational coaching for men and couples in the United States and Canada, where coaching is permitted. I also offer therapy for individuals and couples located in California, within my professional scope of practice.

During your initial consultation, we will talk about what you are looking for and determine whether a therapy or coaching approach is the best fit. Both formats are structured, confidential, and focused on meaningful change, but they serve different purposes.

Coaching is not a substitute for mental health treatment. If therapy or a higher level of care is more appropriate, I will make recommendations and help you identify supportive options.

Do you see clients online or in person?

I see clients in person as well as online. My office is located at

Suite 455, 27 West Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, California, 93101.

I see clients online via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

I work with therapy clients throughout California and with coaching clients across the U.S. and Canada.

Who do you typically work with?

I primarily work with men, couples, and families who want thoughtful, structured support for relationship and life challenges.

This includes men in high-responsibility roles such as professionals, entrepreneurs, founders, and executives who are navigating stress, burnout, leadership pressure, or relationship strain.

I also work with couples seeking relationship or marriage help, including those dealing with ongoing conflict, communication breakdowns, major life transitions, or questions about how to move forward together.

In addition, I support parents of boys and young men who are concerned about emotional development, communication, behavior, or relational challenges and want grounded, practical guidance.

This work is best suited for people who value clarity, accountability, and meaningful change rather than quick fixes.

What issues do you work with most often?

I work most often with individuals, couples, and families facing challenges that affect their relationships, emotional well-being, and daily functioning. Common concerns include relationship conflict, communication breakdowns, and emotional distance between partners.

I also support men dealing with anger, shutdown, stress, or emotional reactivity, particularly in the context of work pressure, leadership roles, and family life. Many clients come in seeking help with infidelity, betrayal, and trust repair, or after realizing that the same patterns keep repeating despite their best efforts.

Additional areas of focus include parenting challenges, especially with boys and teenagers, as well as major life transitions such as relocation, career changes, separation, divorce, or becoming a parent.

The work is practical, relational, and focused on helping people move out of stuck patterns and into steadier, more connected ways of living and relating.

What if one of us is unsure about working on the relationship?

Ambivalence is common in couples seeking relationship or marriage counseling. It is not a barrier to starting the work. In some cases, part of our early sessions may focus on discernment, which helps couples clarify whether they are moving toward repair, separation, or a structured pause.

This process supports honest conversation, thoughtful decision-making, and emotional clarity, rather than staying stuck in ongoing conflict or uncertainty. The goal is to help both partners move forward with integrity and direction, whether that means rebuilding the relationship or navigating next steps with greater respect and understanding.

If you are unsure where things stand, an initial consultation can help determine whether this approach is the right fit.

How long are sessions and how long do we typically work together?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes for individual work and 60 to 75 minutes for couples or group sessions, depending on the format and goals. Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly, especially in the beginning, to build momentum and establish new patterns.

How long we work together varies. Some people come in for short-term, focused support around a specific challenge, while others choose to work together longer-term to deepen skills, strengthen relationships, and create lasting change. We will talk about timing and expectations during your discovery call and adjust as your needs evolve.

The focus is not on staying in therapy indefinitely, but on making meaningful progress at a pace that feels steady, supportive, and sustainable.

How is privacy handled?

Confidentiality is a core part of therapy and coaching.

All sessions are private and confidential, following professional ethics and privacy regulations.

Personal information is never shared without consent, except where legally required to ensure safety.

Virtual sessions are conducted using secure, encrypted platforms to protect your privacy.

How does payment work?

I am a private-pay provider and do not bill insurance directly.

Some therapy clients may be able to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance for California-based therapy services; I can provide a superbill where appropriate.

Coaching services are generally not covered by insurance.

We will discuss fees, payment options, and any documentation you might need during our consultation.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellation or rescheduling. Sessions that are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full. This policy helps protect reserved appointment times and allows us to offer consistent, reliable scheduling for all clients.

If you have questions about scheduling, rescheduling, or availability, we can review those details during your initial consultation.

How is this different from traditional therapy?

This work blends therapy and coaching to create practical, forward-moving change.

Traditional therapy often focuses on processing past experiences and understanding emotional patterns.

While that insight matters, this approach also emphasizes skill building, real-time communication tools, and clear structure so change shows up in everyday life.

Sessions are active, direct, and collaborative.

We focus on helping men and couples improve communication, navigate conflict, strengthen emotional regulation, and make intentional choices in relationships and work.

The goal is not just insight, but usable tools and accountability that support lasting growth.

For clients who feel stuck talking about the same issues without seeing change, this approach offers a more engaged, skills-based alternative while still maintaining the depth, safety, and confidentiality of professional therapy.
